Women's Dinner 2021: Remembering Ada Evans

When: 12 May 2021, 6:30pm
Where: Lotus Restaurant, The Galleries, Sydney

The Committee is pleased to announce that on 12 May 2021 the Society will be hosting its annual Women's Dinner at Lotus Restaurant, Sydney. This will be the first in-person event since the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in March 2020 and we are looking forward to seeing some of our members again in person.

This date is significant because one century ago, on 12 May 1921, Ada Evans became the first woman barrister to be admitted to the NSW Bar Association following the passage of the Women's Legal Status Act 1918 (NSW). A trailblazer, Ms Evans was also the first woman to complete a law degree in Australia.

Our special guests this year are the Hon Dr Tricia Kavanagh and Pauline Wright. Dr Kavanagh is a former Justice of the Industrial Court of NSW, later Deputy President of the Industrial Relations Commission, and served as the Governor of the University of Notre Dame. She is currently an Arbitrator, Court of Arbitration for Sport. Ms Wright is the President of the NSW Council for Civil Liberties and is a former President of the Law Society of NSW and the Law Council of Australia.

Join members and supporters for an intimate dinner with two exceptional talents, who have broken boundaries in the law and paved the way for greater gender equity in the legal profession.

The Women's Dinner is an autonomous event (ie. women only). Tickets are $60 for general admission and $50 for students. Tickets must be purchased using the form below prior to the event. Tickets cover a banquet meal and limited drinks at the venue. Places at this dinner are limited to 30 tickets so make sure you register online as soon as possible.
